Context and Objectives

The new T1 line is designed to connect the city’s main hubs along the north-south axis: from the Mancasale industrial area to the Mediopadana high-speed rail station, and on to the residential districts of Rivalta.
Main objectives:
• Reduce urban traffic and private car use;
• Enhance interchange between trains, buses, bicycles, and pedestrian routes;
• Improve accessibility to strategic services (hospitals, schools, offices, and commercial areas).

Route and main stops

With a length of 13 km and 24 stops, the line crosses densely frequented areas such as the historic center, the hospital, and the school campus, as well as intersecting the main urban mobility hubs:
• Southern terminus: Rivalta – Sant’Ambrogio (with park-and-ride facility);
• Northern terminus: AV Mediopadana Station, metropolitan interchange point.

Technical solutions

The line is designed to ensure efficiency and speed, with over 70% of the route running on a dedicated right of way. The plan includes:
• Routes separated from urban traffic;
• 2 park-and-ride facilities;
• 5 electrical substations;
• Reuse of the railway track bed up to the Mediopadana station.

The project involves minimally invasive works, with attention to the urban landscape and safety.

Urban integration

The tramway becomes an opportunity for urban regeneration: redesigned public spaces, new cycling and pedestrian paths, improved accessibility, and enhancement of strategic areas (e.g., Officine Reggiane, Piazzale Europa, Reggia di Rivalta).
