Context and Objectives

Line 4.1 was created with the aim of improving connections between the city’s neighborhoods and redeveloping expanding areas. The route, which extends over 6.2 km, helps overcome the barriers created by the railway and the hydrological context, creating a bridge between previously separated spaces. The project responds to a growing demand for sustainable urban mobility, promoting integration and usability for citizens.

Route and length

  • Route of Line 4.1: Approximately 6.2 km long, connecting with Line 1 and extending to Le Piagge, passing by the Coop Shopping Center and Le Piagge railway station.
  • Overlapping with former railway line: 3,448 m overlap with the former Empoli-Florence railway line
  • New track: 2,712 m of new track, with a 212 m interconnection with Line 1

Stops

There are 12 stops planned along the route, with a variable distance between 250 and 757 meters. Each stop has been designed to ensure maximum access and convenience for users, with a particular focus on the accessibility of stops at higher elevations, which will be equipped with ramps and/or elevators.

Detailed Route

The route was designed to respond to urban planning forecasts, optimizing passage through expanding areas and redeveloping previously separated spaces. The line fits into a context that aims to improve interconnection between different neighborhoods and services, acting as an engine for urban revitalization.

Main infrastructure works

  • Tram Depot: A dedicated depot for storing 10 trams, which includes offices, a warehouse, a canteen, and facilities for basic maintenance, such as a pit and sandblasting.
  • Stops and Interconnections: The main stops are designed to maximize usability, with connections between Line 4.1 and other infrastructure, including a connection to the Scandicci depot.

Technical specifications

  • Total Length: 6.2 km
  • Stops: 12, with distances between them varying from 250 m to 757 m
  • Accessibility: Guaranteed with ramps and elevators for stops at higher elevations
  • Tram Depot: Capable of housing 10 trams, including operational spaces and services

Interconnections

Line 4.1 connects to Line 1 via a 212 m interconnection, with a possible future extension toward Alamanni, allowing for further expansion and strengthening of the urban transport network.
